our goal

Mission Statement:
To give everyone living with or caring for someone in our local area the confidence to live full, active, healthy and happy lives.

It might not seem like it to the outside world, but living with type 1 is tough. It isn’t a condition where you take one or two injections and call it a day. Managing type 1 is 24/7. Successful management isn’t a perfect science, our medical toolkit can sometimes fall short and what works for one person doesn’t necessarily work for the next. It’s not just about paying attention to what we eat or how much insulin we take, our blood glucose levels can be impacted by stress, sleep, exercise, the weather, hormones, changes in routine… you name it, they can all have an effect on our daily management. And with up to 180 extra decisions to be made every single day, it can take its toll both mentally and physically. type 1 doesn’t define us, but there is no escaping the fact that it plays a huge, and often challenging, part in our daily lives.

At type1 Bedfordshire no one needs to feel that they’re in this journey alone. Our group is a safe space where members can find genuine peer support and connect with others who understand the daily realities of living with type 1. We share experiences, tips and strategies for effective management and provide access to useful information and resources in an environment where everybody feels able to raise any subject in complete confidence, without fear or embarrassment of being judged.
