how we work
Group Meetings
Informal get-togethers over a coffee or a drink held once a month in a relaxed, friendly, safe space. It’s the perfect opportunity to meet other people living with type 1, share experiences, swap ideas, ask questions, and generally support and motivate each other. We cover a whole range of topics, sometimes put forward by our members and sometimes focusing on specific subject areas. It’s a space where everyone can join in the conversation and discuss both the practical day- to-day stuff and the emotional highs and lows of living with type 1, from how best to avoid lows while doing the housework, to running a marathon, sharing ideas on diet and food, going clubbing, or the logistics of a long haul flight, you name it we’ll cover it!
Q&A Sessions
Slightly more formal than our group meetings, these sessions provide an educational forum with invested partners from different members of the diabetes teams at our local hospitals, associated medical practitioners and representatives from the pharmaceutical companies responsible for the diabetes technology many of us now use. It’s an opportunity to find out more about diabetes tech if you’re not already using it and to ask all those questions you might not get time to at your usual hospital appointment from third parties we don’t generally have access to.

JYOTI – AGE 38
The range of topics covered is really varied. From managing diet, eating out, alcohol consumption, to the impact of exercise, stress, lifestyle changes and tips for travelling. I’ve learnt so much and no longer feel weighed down by having type 1 diabetes.
type 1 for 3 years
Social Events
From dinner at a local restaurant to special get- togethers to celebrate birthdays or Christmas, our social events are a great way to spend some time together in a more relaxed setting and also serve as a practical way to share tips and gain confidence in navigating restaurant menus and alcohol intake.
WhatsApp Group
A forum for us to stay connected between meetings. It’s an effective way of keeping everyone updated about upcoming meetings and provides a lively space where members can ask ad hoc questions, share interesting articles, suggest future discussion topics, and swap experiences whenever something crops up.
One-to-One Support
One-to-one meetings either online or in person for anyone who feels like they would benefit from some extra support or who may have a challenge that they’d prefer to discuss in a more private setting or cover in more detail than a group setting might allow.
Whichever way you prefer to connect, we’re here to provide a warm, supportive space where everyone feels welcome and able to join in.
